I don’t normally blog about this, and I’m not giving this man credit for what he believes is a “review”.
Ever have that one critic that NO MATTER WHAT, no matter how great the show, no matter the quality of production, script, or company, just shits on your performance?
That’s exactly what we have here, ladies and gents.
Tom Garvey was formerly a critic for the Boston Globe. According to his “blog” profile, he was “cast” from this post, and has yet to find another print outlet. Not surprising, with the decline in print news media, yes? But if you read more than one sentence of what I’m sure he believes is a great blog, you’ll see that he’s a pretty miserable human being that has to find fault with something in each and every performance. Which leads me to believe there may be some underlying cause of his demise at the Globe.
I feel cheated every time I find that there’s a review of my theater’s work on this man’s blog. Even more so when there’s a photo. Especially since he never, ever credits photographers. What – you think photos just magically appear in your inbox? No, someone works very hard to get the images you plaster everywhere.
Sigh. Unfortunately, there’s not much I can do, as he’s still on press lists everywhere. But showing up as “press” to the last weekend of the run of a sold out production? What good does that do?
None!
